San Juan Alotenango
San Juan Alotenango is located 12 kilometers from Antigua and 55
kilometers from the capital Guatemala City. We are surrounded by three
volcanoes; Agua (inactive 3,777 m), Acatenango (inactive, 3,975 m) and
Fuego (active, 3,763 m).
The total population of Alotenango is 22,000 habitants, who all live on
farms, and in hamlets in the town. The village is big but also very poor, and
many families live under miserable conditions.
How could a father that makes Q25 (US $3) per day, be able to give
education, food, clothes and healthcare to his children? Many of the
families in Alotenango are 6 children or more. Therefore we are here, and it
is for them that we are working. They are part of our family and they see us
as part of theirs.
